A former cellist and dancer, Alison Hurwitz now finds music and movement in the written word. She has been published in The Shore, Gyroscope Review, SWWIM Every Day, Anti-Heroin Chic, South Florida Poetry Journal, Rust & Moth, River Heron Review, South Dakota Review, Sky Island Journal, Thimble Magazine, and others. Alison was a finalist for the grand prize in Volume 2 of Poetry in the Time of Coronavirus, and received an honorable mention from Tiferet Journal for its annual poetry award. Her poem, No Extraordinary Measures, was a finalist for RockPaperPoem's 2025 Poetry Award, and her poem, America, We Hope This is a Mammogram, was acknowledged as one of ONE ART's 25 most read poems of 2025. Alison's chapbook, The Thing About Belonging to the Moon, received an Honorable Mention from Sheila Na Gig's 2025 Chapbook Competition. Her work was nominated for Best of the Net in 2023 and 2024, and for a Pushcart Prize in 2024 and 2025. She lives with her husband, two sons and rescue dog in North Carolina. When not writing, she officiates weddings and memorial services, takes long walks in the woods with her family, and dances in her kitchen.
